AUSTIN, Texas -- Washington State freshman high jumper Holly Parent joined the previous five Cougar NCAA Championships qualifiers Saturday when she leaped a personal-record height during the final day of the NCAA West Regional/Preliminary Round Track & Field Championships, at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The top 12 in each event advance from the West Regional Preliminary meet to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, June 9-12.

Parent (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada) was one of 11 women who cleared 5-feet, 11 1/4 inches (1.81m) in the high jump. Parent cleared the first four bar heights on the first attempt but needed two tries to clear a lifetime-best height of 5-11 1/4, which placed her ninth in the Regional competition. Her mark is the sixth-best high jump in WSU history (tied with Lissa Gray, 1988 in Moscow).

The women's 4x100m relay of Cindy Robinson, Princess Joy Griffey, Jasmine Johnson-McKeown and Shawna Fermin ran a time of 45.62 seconds which was 17th overall. Robinson (Norwalk, Calif.), Johnson-McKeown (San Bernardino, Calif.) and Fermin (Victorville, Calif.) are all Cougar freshman.

In the final event of the meet, the WSU women's 4x400m relay team of Fermin, Anna Layman, Veronica Elseroad-Wall and Griffey ran a season-best time of 3-minutes, 38.45 seconds for 15th place. This is the eighth-fastest women's 1600m relay time in WSU history.

It was a disappointing day for three-time All-American discus thrower Matt Lamb (senior, Emmett, Idaho) who did not qualify for the national final after throwing 171-9 (52.35m) for 18th place. Sophomore Joe Bartlett (Reno) was 36th after throwing 159-0 (48.46m).

Stephan Scott-Ellis (freshman, Tacoma) triple jumped 50-8 3/4 (15.46m) which was the 17th-best mark of the day and missed the chance for three more attempts by 1/2 inch.

Kjirsten Jensen (sophomore, Arlington, Wash.) finished 15th in the women's hammer after throwing 186-1 (56.71m), just 13 inches off the number 12 spot advancing to Eugene. Jensen reached her best distance Saturday on her third throw and then fouled the final three attempts.

In individual races on the track Saturday, Lisa Egami (senior, Coquitlam, British Columbia) ran a time of 4:26.62 which was 17th in the women's 1500m quarterfinal. Jono Lafler (redshirt freshman, Maple Valley, Wash.) ran the 5000m semifinal race in a time of 15:08.70 for 38th.

Parent joins Marissa Tschida (javelin), Courtney Kirkwood (javelin), Jeshua Anderson (400m hurdles), Trent Arrivey (high jump), and Anna Layman (800m) as competitors at the NCAA Championships, June 9-12, in Eugene.
