PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University women's swim team defeated Cal-State Northridge in a relay meet Friday 114-112. The relay meet was a first for the Cougars this season.

WSU jumped out to a 78-54 lead after four events, but a disqualification in the 400 yard medley relay served costly for the Cougars. Cal-State Northridge tied the meet at 78 after that event. The Cougs entered the final event down by four (96-92), but were able to outscore the Matadors 22-16 in the 200 freestyle relay to grab a two point victory.

"The team did a good job," Quam said. "It came down to the last relay where had to finish one-three to pull out a victory and we did."

WSU placed first in six of the seven relay events.

The Cougars and Matadors square off in a dual meet Saturday at 10 a.m. at Gibb Pool.
